The Huawei Mate Xs going on sale on March 5 in China, other markets to follow soon after
It will not go on sale in other markets on that date, but it should soon after that. Richard Yu did say that the device will become available in March during the introduction. He did not share more details back then, though.
The phone will cost CNY16,999 ($2,424) in China. During its global launch, Huawei did share a price tag for Europe as well. The phone will be priced at €2,499 once it goes on sale in Europe.
As you can see, this is quite a high price tag, though that was to be expected. That was the price tag that Huawei announced for the Mate X, despite the fact the device never made it to global markets.
Well, the Mate Xs is basically an improved variant of that handset, and it retains the price tag of its predecessor. The Huawei Mate Xs bring an improved hinge, a more robust design, a button for quickly unfolding the phone, and more.
This handset is considerably more expensive than the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Flip. That, alone, will make it harder for Huawei to reach consumers, not to mention the lack of Google services.
The device will not include Google services
The Huawei Mate Xs will ship with Huawei’s HMS, instead of GMS. As many of you know by now, Huawei has been banned by the US, and cannot utilize Google’s services, which include its application.
In other words, you won’t get a single Google-made app pre-installed, while the Play Store won’t be included either. You’ll need to use Huawei’s AppGallery to download and install applications.
The Huawei Mate Xs is made out of metal and glass, and the device folds outwards. The phone definitely looks better than the Galaxy Fold, as it has way more screen real estate, and no notches.
That being said, this phone does fold outwards, which leaves a part of its display on the bottom when folded. Those are not good news considering that the Mate Xs features a plastic display.
The device is fueled by the Kirin 990, Huawei’s most powerful processor. It weighs around 300 grams, which means it’s quite heavy, but that’s what you get when you use a foldable tablet, essentially.
The Mate Xs also included 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. You’ll find four cameras on its back, and those cameras are used as front-facing shooters as well. There you have it, the Huawei Mate Xs will go on sale on March 5 in China, and other markets will follow soon after that. If you’d like to know more about the phone, click here.
