MediaTek Intros Helio P95 SoC, A Successor To Helio P90

MediaTek has just announced a new mobile processor, the Helio P95. This SoC is a successor to the company’s popular Helio P90 chip. That SoC has been included in a ton of budget smartphones to date.

The MediaTek Helio P95 is now here to continue the tradition. This is yet another mid-range processor that will probably be included in a ton of budget Chinese smartphones.

This is a single-cluster, 8-core processor. It comes with two Cortex-A75 cores clocked at 2.2GHz, and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0GHz.

The MediaTek Helio P90 offers a 10-percent performance improvement over its predecessor

This SoC also comes with a rather large L3 cache, and it includes the PowerVR GM 94446 GPU. This graphics chip will offer a 10-percent improvement in performance, compared to the Helio P90, claims MediaTek.

This SoC supports up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM (1,866MHz), and UFS 2.1 flash storage. In terms of cameras, it supports 64-megapixel sensors, or 25-megapixel + 16-megapixel dual camera setups.

As far as display support is concerned, it supports resolutions of up to 2520 x 1080, with a 21:9 aspect ratio. This SoC also comes with APU 2.0 (AI Processing Unit). That unit offers a 10-percent increase in benchmark performance compared to the Helio P90.

The Helio P95 includes triple ISP with 14-bit RAW and 10-bit YUV processing. AI camera enhancements are also a part of the package, including AI-NR low-light photography, scene identification, 5-person human pose tracking, and so on.

MediaTek’s HyperEngine is a part of this offering as well. It comes with improvements in gaming, while it also boosts other aspects of this processor.

It supports Cat. 12 download speeds, and Cat. 13 upload speeds

This chipset supports 4G LTE connectivity, up to Cat. 12 download speeds, and Cat. 13 upload speeds. 4 x 4 MIMO support is included, and the same goes for 256 QAM, ViLTE, VoLTE, WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, and so on.

MediaTek did not say when will we start seeing smartphones fueled by this processor. The company also did not list a single phone that will be fueled by this chip.

Chinese smartphone manufacturers are expected to start making such announcements soon, though. Companies like Ulefone, Elephone, OUKITEL, and a number of others tend to use MediaTek’s processors intensively.

Such companies have been using the Helio P70 and P90 quite a bit in the last year or so, so they’ll probably do the same with the Helio P95 as soon as it becomes available. We’re guessing that the first phones will arrive in Q2 this year, but we’ll see.
